Technology Integration Matrix
The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) illustrates how teachers can use technology to enhance learning for K-12 students. The TIM incorporates five interdependent characteristics of meaningful learning environments: active, constructive, goal directed (i.e., reflective), authentic, and collaborative (Jonassen, Howland, Moore, & Marra, 2003). The TIM associates five levels of technology integration (i.e., entry, adoption, adaptation, infusion, and transformation) with each of the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments. Together, the five levels of technology integration and the five characteristics of meaningful learning environments create a matrix of 25 cells.

TIM Tools for D49 Staff
The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) Tools are a powerful set of tools available to all D49 staff. Log in by clicking HERE or the image on the left.
The Technology Uses and Perceptions Survey (TUPS) is designed to gain a better understanding of how educators use technology in their teaching, their level of experience with technology, and their comfort with and attitudes toward technology.
The Technology Integration Matrix Observation Tool (TIM-O)
This tool is designed to guide principals, teachers, and others through the process of evaluating the level of technology integration within a particular lesson. When completed, the tool indicates a profile for the observed lesson in terms of the Technology Integration Matrix. With multiple observations, the TIM-O helps evaluators get a clear picture of the professional development needs of the teacher to support further technology integration.
Action Research for Technology Integration (ARTI)
As teachers increase integration of technology in their classrooms, they begin to take more responsibility for ensuring its effective use with students. The ARTI tool provides a framework for teachers to design and conduct their own action research projects. ARTI takes teachers through the five basic steps of an action research project including: identification of a question, description of the context, data collection, analysis, and the creation of findings. In each step, ARTI guides teachers in recording the necessary details that are then saved to a central database for each instance of TIM-Tools.

Twitter for teachers
Twitter is the best way for teachers to create their own professional learning network or PLN. Creating a twitter account is simple (you can find directions by clicking HERE.) Navigating Twitter can be confusing at first. Use the sheet or visit TeachThought's website.

Learning Management Systems (LMS)
The last thing I would want to do it force users to use a piece of software because it is the "best out there" and will "completely change the way we teach forever" because there is no such software that deserves that kind of endorsement. I will; however, say you must have a learning management system. Fortunately we live in a world of choices when it comes to choosing an LMS, with so many flavors you could even implement more than one at a time in your classroom! I really like Schoology. Other teachers like Moodle and Edmodo. Jennie Magiera has an amazing blog post on the differences between Edmodo and Schoology. She is also someone you should be following on Twitter! Remind 101 Communicate via text with parents/students FREE & Anonymous
Remind101 is a safe way for teachers to text message students and keep in touch with parents. Teachers never see students' phone numbers. Students never see theirs. Remind101 began at Michigan State University when Brett became overwhelmed and unorganized with his semester workload. The "AH-HA" moment came when he received a text message. Knowing students text message and email so often, what if a program could send reminders to students before their assignments are due?

What Apps should I have on my student's iPads?
It's not about what you should have, it's about WHY you should have certain apps. Don't get a list of "apps all student's should have" just because everyone is doing it. Choose apps because they support the desired outcome of your lesson. Use Allan Carrington's Padagogy Wheel to help guide you in your search to support your curriculum.
